Hi All,

February is coming up fast and with that, it's also the month where we will release the new camera range of RED Digital Cinema.

In case you have missed it earlier on, check out the entry level RED Raven and the more advanced Scarlet-W. Both comes with smaller lighter bodies and are capable of recording RAW R3D and Quicktime Pro Res at the same time.

The Raven starts at under US$10,000 for the camera body, monitor, adapters and SSD, whereas Scarlet-W will be slightly higher at US$14500.

The deposit is US$1000 to reserve a package and you could be among the first to get the new RED cameras.

New Courses

Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT)

Media staff deploying to high risk locations often may not be equipped with the skills to ensure their safety. This course has saved many lives by teaching participants to be safe in these situations whilst still acquiring the images and footage they need for breaking news stories.

Organisations such as the BBC and ITN have made courses like this prerequisites for some job roles and many other broadcasters are following suit. At the end of the course, each participant will receive an assessment and certificate accredited by the world's leading news outlets.
AV8 Media is working with Global Media Risk to run this. Global Media Risk is affiliated with the International News Safety Institute as an approved Training, Equipment and Support Provider.

Eye in the Sky : Aerial Cinematography


With the availability of powerful remote controlled drones and a range of small high resolution cameras which can be mount onto them, aerial cinematography has become another tool in the visual storyteller's arsenal.

However before using these in productions, it is useful to know the safety aspects and limitations of these devices. Once these are adequately understood, the next step is to actually learn to pilot these devices.
This 2 day course is designed to provide a firm grounding in the legal and safety issues of drone use as well as to provide a basic grounding in the operation of a drone for the purpose of video production.

Advanced Colour Grading: Looks and Calibration

This 2 days advanced hands-on course guides you through the process of creating specific looks for creative Colour Grading. It also covers how to manage Colour Spaces to ensure proper delivery for Digital Cinema, HD broadcast and future UHDTV broadcast. Starting with learning how to calibrate monitors and create custom Look-Up Tables for technical fidelity, students will then go on to create LUTs to convert from Colour Space to another to ensure accurate outcomes on various mediums.

This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about Colour Correction and Colour Grading. It provides valuable additional skills for video editors, motion graphics, effects artists and even Directors of Photography who want to understand how to grade their own shots.

HDSLR and Compact Camera Cinematography

In recent years, Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) Cameras from companies like Canon, Panasonic, Nikon and Sony,which were typically designed for shooting still images are now capable of shooting high resolution video. This enabled end users to achieve very professional images by using high quality photographic lenses to shoot their video. As these DSLR cameras that could shoot HD(s) video becoming more commonly used, they are beginning to be known as HDSLR cameras.
Hot on the heels of the HDSLR revolution, other companies like Blackmagic Design began creating cameras which kept the small form factor of the HDSLR and packed in even more video features such as 4k and RAW video recording

Take-up in the media industry has been high, but many videographers DP's and cinematographers may not know how to optimize shooting with this new generation of cameras in addition to the various tips, tricks and workarounds to ensure they get the best results from their cameras.

AV8 Media thus specifically designed this course to address these concerns

Adobe Premiere Pro 101 :An Introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro


This entry-level course teaches students to perform essential editing techniques while becoming familiar with the Adobe Premiere Pro user interface. This class is designed for anyone looking to edit professional-quality video with Adobe Premiere Pro and uses hands-on and interactive instruction to best explore its functionality. The course is designed for new users who have no substantial editing experience.

Intro to Colour Grading

 

This 3 days hands-on course gives students insight into the possibilities of Colour Grading, and give them a firm foundation in the basics of Colour Grading.

Starting with the basics of balancing & primary correction, then moving on to the finer points of secondary grading, including continuity matching, controlling selected areas of the image using keying, using vignettes to isolate & track regions, creating unique
looks, adjusting the composition & framing of a shot, and much more. Attendees will also get to see what a professional grading suite setup looks like and will learn the basics of setting up their own grading suites.

Target Audience:

This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn about Colour Correction and Colour Grading.
It provides valuable additional skills for video editors, motion graphics and effects artists and even DoP's who want to understand how to grade their won shots.

It is tailored for those who prefer hands-on and interactive instruction. Skills learned in the course are applicable to any colour grading setup.

Producer's Toolkit

The role of the producer is a vital one but is something that has been rapidly evolving to meet challenges faced by the media industry. Industry veteran Juan Foo has put together the Producer's Toolkit series of courses specifically for film and television producers as well as independent film makers. Discussions and practical exercises are used throughout the course and attendees are encouraged to share their own experiences also.

There are 3 courses that make up the Producer's Toolkit.

Each courses is a 2 day course. Attendees are encouraged to attend all 3 to thoroughly benefit but you may also choose to attend individual courses.
