Introduction 

Colour grading has become an essential part of post workflow but many colourists grade by feel without fully understanding the technical aspects of the grade or using the many time saving features and workflows that are available in modern colour grading tools.

This advanced  course guides you through the creation of specific Looks for creative Colour Grading.

You’ll also learn  to manage Colour Spaces to ensure proper delivery for Digital Cinema, HD broadcast and future UHDTV broadcast.

We'll teach you to leverage Colour Management tools for convenient conversions between Colour Spaces.

You'll also be shown different methods of generating Look-Up Tables for monitor calibrations.

The majority of the class is conducted with Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve  while the calibration aspect of the course will introduce several other tools.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for anyone who has been colour grading and wishes to deepen their understanding of the process..

It is tailored for those who prefer hands-on and interactive instruction. Skills learned in the course are applicable to any colour grading setup.

Prerequisites

- Learners should have previously attended AV8 Media's "Introduction to Colour Grading” or “The Art & Science of Colour Grading” course

- If you have not previously attended our colour grading classes you would need at least 2 years of practical colour grading experience and a firm grasp of colour grading in DaVinci Resolve as that is the main software we would be using in this class

- Basic spoken and written English is  required as the course materials and software menus  are in English

- WPLN  (Workplace Literacy and Numeracy) Level 5 or above for all 5 skills (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing and Numeracy)

By the end of this course learners should be able to review graded footage to ensure final outputs achieve the desired creative style and depth.

They should be able to perform the following

- Analyse video files for aesthetic colour grading requirements

- Develop colour grading standards, guidelines and solutions to ensure files comply with industry standards

- Perform and assess a colour grade to ensure consistency between shots

- Implement and supervise efficient colour correction workflows

    • Using Resolve Colour Management to  reduce Colour Grading times for Log footage

    • Applying Resolve Colour Management for painless Colour Space conversions

    • Demo of how to probe and calibrate consumer monitors for improved HD Broadcast colour & gamma accuracy

    • Demo of how to probe and calibrate professional monitors in preparation for Digital Cinema colour grading
